How to use PROMS
How to add a PROMS request to a standard SurgicalPerformance case
1. Click on Add case
2. Click on the speciality in which you would like to enter a case
3. Enter the required information in the first part of the landing page
All the fields in red are mandatory fields in order to generate a completed record. Patient Identifier - Do not use patient names, use de-identified data to protect patient details.
4. Ensure 'Send survey 2 weeks after surgery' is turned on.
Date of Surgery - The first survey is sent 14 days after the procedure date; therefore the PROMS record must be submitted before this date.
Survey Request - The first survey, is automatically scheduled once a PROMS record is entered. You can also decide whether or not to send a 6 week and 6 month followup here.
Patient Details - We do require a patient name and contact number in order to send and personalise the surveys. However, once this data is entered it is stored in a separate system and cannot be viewed or exported by anyone.
5. Enter patient's name and mobile number
6. Click on Save Case
6. Survey Schedule
To check that a PROMS survey is scheduled or to quickly check the progress of a patient's survey you can view the patient's record by clicking on the relevant module. A PROMS survey schedule is indicated by 3 grey dots in the PROMS column on the page
7. You can also view/edit the record by clicking the three vertical dots on the right-hand side of the record. In Section 2 'PROMS Survey' you will see the dates of the surveys scheduled as well as any results that have been collected.

What are the PROMS survey questions and how do they look on the patient’s end?
Once a PROMS survey has been scheduled through SurgicalPerformance, a message with a link to the survey will automatically be sent to the patient 14 days after surgery. This will be repeated at 6 weeks & 6 months if selected.
The survey consists of 16 easy questions about their recovery progress. These are divided into 4 categories; fatigue, pain intensity, pain interference and physical function. The final question assesses patient satisfaction.
Once the survey has been completed, the results will be visible to you on your SurgicalPerformance account or directly to your email. You can have a quick insight into how each of your patients' recovery is progressing from anywhere.
Understanding PROMS Reporting
Results indicators
Results indicators show at a glance the most severe result from a survey, making it easy to see where follow up is required. Green coloured results are better than amber, are better than red in regards to quality of life results.
Status indicators
Status indicators show the status of a survey that does not have a result due to it being scheduled in the future, not being completed, the patient not responding or if the message couldn’t be sent due to an incorrect or disconnected number or other error.
Net Promoter Score
The net promoter score is based on asking how likely the patient is to recommend the surgeon on a scale of 1-10.
Survey Results
The survey results are PROMIS T-Scores which are standardised and show how your sample is different from the population mean. T score standardises the score to mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10.
This makes it easy to see how much your patient’s score deviates from the population mean. For example a score of 40 would mean your patient has a score of one standard deviation below the population mean which is a large difference.
Lower fatigue, pain and pain interference scores refer to better quality of life.
Lower physical function scores refer to poorer quality of life.
